TOUR DE LA MEIJE
The pinnacle of touring in the La Grave area – involving all the exciting elements of ski touring in a high mountain environment. 2 days of ski mountaineering around the mythical peak of La Meije.
Dates: every weekend of April.
Number of days: 2 days.
Number of participants: minimum 2 persons and maximum 3.
Technical level: you must be in very good shape as we will climb three cols above 3300m with our skis on the backpack! You need to be an expert skier, comfortable skiing in any type of snow and in steep terrain (around 40°). A basic knowledge of cramponing is recommended.
Price “All Included”: 493€/person.
D -1: Possibility to stay at hostel or hotel upon request.
D1: Meet at 8:15 am in front of the Guide Bureau of La Grave for a last equipment check. We then take the cable car to 3200m. From the top of the lift there are several options depending on the conditions. Either climb with skins to Col de la Girose (3514m), or take the glacier poma lift to Col de la Lauze (3512m).
We ski down to the Selle glacier where we put our skins on and climb to the Brèche du Râteau (3236m).We ski down the east facing slope to the Etançons valley.
From this point, we do a last climb to the Promontoire hut (3082m) where we stay the night.
Vertical climb: approx 900m
Vertical drop: approx 1300m
D2: Early headlamp start in direction to the Brèche de la Meije (3357m), to traverse the brèche with crampons. With a breathtaking view we then ski at the foot of the north face of La Meije. We put on the skins and climb 200 metres to the foot of the couloir Serret du Savon where rope and crampons are needed to climb the couloir. At the top of the couloir we put our skis on again and join the mythical Aigle hut (3450m). Depending on the snow conditions we ski down either the Tabuchet or the Homme glacier, both stuning runs all the way down to the valley.

Vertical drop: approx 2100m depending on choice of route
The programme is always subject to change depending on weather, snow
conditions and the level of the participants. The guide makes the final
decision to modify the programme due to safety reasons.
