Winter Alpinism

Winter alpinism is not always synonymous with extreme conditions and difficulties, it is rather a more unique way to explore the world of the high mountains, away from the crowds of the summer season. Ascending summits in the heart of winter gives you even more the feeling to be the only person immersed in this pristine white environment. In the wintertime, mountains adorn their white mantle and become a wilder playground, offering endless possibilities of exploration with snowy slopes, couloirs and gullies. Natural elements such as wind and cold are sometimes a bit more intense but the presence of snow and ice changes the way some itineraries are climbed, making some easier and safer in fact. Some climbs can be exposed with high summer temperatures, making winter ascents more ideal. The possibilities for winter alpinism around La Grave and in the Ecrins massif are endless, with all grades of difficulties ranging from introductory to more committing routes.
