The path starting from Arsine winds up and crosses the renowned Pas d'Anna Falque (1735m). Then we walk from the bucolic Plan de l'Alpe up to the Plan de Valfourche (2048m) and head west following the Clot des Cavales mountain stream. The path gets steeper again and the last section before the hut is equipped with cables to make the ascent easier. The setting of the hut, right by a lake and in the heart of a rock amphitheater, is simply stunning

1200m vertical from Arsine to the Pavé mountain hut (2841m) - about 4 hours.

    Night in the hut.

We gradually ascend a slope heading to the Col des Chamois, visible from the hut. The terrain gets slightly steeper in the final part -we will progress on rock or snow depending on the conditions- and we quickly reach our goal. The view from the top is simply stunning: we can contemplate on one side the Vallon des Etançons and the south face of La Meije, and on the other side the Pavé glacial cirque.

    400m vertical - around 2 hours.

The Col des Chamois (3200m) is located in a stunning environment, in the heart of the Ecrins National Park. Surrounded by the Pic Gaspard, the Pic Nord des Cavales and the Grande Ruine, it overlooks the Pavé lake and mountain hut. Its ascent over 2 days is an ideal initiation to alpinism and to the world of the high mountains. We will hike the first day up to the Pavé mountain hut. From there, we will summit the following day, enjoying breathtaking views of the Ecrins massif.
