An introduction to ski touring from the ski lifts of Chazelet with the la Grave la Meije mountain guide office !
This one-day course is the ideal opportunity to get familiar with the practice of ski touring. From La Grave, we will head to the small family-friendly ski resort of Chazelet (1740m / 5,708ft), where we enjoy the spectacular view of la Meije and the massif. Ski lifts are located on both sides of the valley behind the village of Chazelet, allowing us to do several descents. ‘Freetouring’ involves using both ski lifts and skins, with short easy hikes on skis. We will go over the basic techniques of ski touring: how to use properly your equipment (such as putting your skins on your skis, using your ski crampons, positioning heel risers and more). We will also practice how to make a skin track and do kick turns. The slopes are east and west facing, allowing us to make the most of the snow quality according to the time of the day and the weather conditions. We will enjoy fun easy descents through untracked snow on gentle wide open slopes.
