Base camp refuge de L’Aigle

Spending the night at the Refuge de l’Aigle, at an altitude of 3,450 metres, then climbing the Doigt de Dieu and the Meije Orientale at dawn is a must for any young mountaineer keen to explore the Grave!

The programme includes an ascent to the Refuge de l’Aigle and climbs of the Doigt de Dieu and the Meije Orientale, covering virtually all aspects of summer mountaineering.

Long ‘big’ climbs, varied snow sections – glacial terrain, steeper slopes and sharp ridges – a comprehensive programme based at one of the most beautiful and impressive mountain refuges.

Day 1
The climb to L’Aigle is almost a hike in itself, or the promise of a wonderful time ascending 1,800 metres in elevation to this unique refuge, nestled amongst the peaks of the Glaciers de l’Homme and du Tabuchet.

Day 2
Ascent of the Doigt du Dieu, the central peak of the Meije, at the heart of the sanctuary! A fairly technical climb, but only over five pitches of ice, snow and rock. The descent is comfortable, carried out via well-equipped abseils.

Accommodation: Refuge de l’Aigle
Day 3
Via elegant and varied snow sections – glacial terrain, steeper slopes and sharp ridges – you will climb the eastern Meije, the final peak to the east of the main ridge extending from the Grand Pic de la Meije. The view from this summit over the ridges of the Meije and the finest peaks of the Écrins is exceptional.

The itinerary is subject to change. The guide leading the trip may modify it depending on weather conditions, mountain conditions, and the fitness or technical ability of the participants, for the safety of the group.
