A long tour with athletic and cultural elements close to La Grave.
A big day out, this Via Ferrata situated on the border between the departments of Isère and Hautes Alpes takes you on a cultural journey through the mines of Grand Clôt. With informational signs on the way this Via Ferrata tells the story of the mines and miners of past times.
The mines were closed in 1926. Until that time silver lead that was used to varnish pottery was extracted. In addition to the cables and iron ladders of the Via Ferrata we find galleries dug out by hand in the VI century. We finish off on an easy part that takes us all the way up to the Plateau d’Emparis and its unforgettable view of La Meije and the Ecrins national park. The descent is by the GR 54 walking path, called the Tour of the Oisans and by a small path that passes the chapel of Notre Dame de Bon Repos. It is a long and beautiful hike back to the road and the parking lot. Recommended for teenagers and adults.
