Introductory course to mountaineering – 2 days in the Meije region

2 days to discover and learn some of the essentiel techniques required for mountaineering at high altitude.

It goes without saying that becoming an accomplished mountaineer doesn’t just happen over the space of 2 days. Rather, this introductory course is designed to open the gateway to the world of mountaineering: to go high amongst the mountain tops and discover a rather atypical and contemplative sport.

Beginner mountaineers with some basic climbing experience.

Day 1 :

We will start the day with an easy rocky ridge climb before getting the cable car to the mid-station at 2400m, to reach the Chancel hut.
We’ll be staying overnight at the Chancel hut.

Day 2 :

A day devoted to glacier travel and safety on the Girose glacier.
Ascent and descent by the La Grave cable car.

Supervision by a qualified mountain guide or instructor
Professional liability insurance
Picnic for each day’s activities
Accommodation (for you and the guide)
Collective technical equipment (ropes, etc.)
Half-board (breakfast + evening meal) in valley hostels and mountain huts.

You’re a regular hiker and have a basic knowledge of climbing and want to go higher. We’re here to help you progress. We’ll take the time to learn about specific tools and safety techniques, as well as to discover the local environment.

Beginner

You need to be in good physical shape and regularly practice an endurance sport such as walking, cycling, running, swimming, etc. You should envisage a 5 to 8 hour day on the mountain, equipped with a backpack weighing around 10 kg.
