Ice climbing – Combe de Malaval – Intermediate level

Come and enjoy a unique adventure in the heart of Oisans, one of Europe's most legendary ice climbing sites.

Here, nature offers spectacular scenery: veritable ice cathedrals, ready to be climbed.

Whether you are resourceful, eager to explore, or a passionate climber, our mountain guides will accompany you to create unforgettable memories.

Our iconic routes promise thrills:

  • Le pylone – 70m – 3+: Ideal for a first approach to multi-pitch ice climbing. A slender, vertical ice pillar with two pitches. Its perfect aesthetics make it an accessible must-try route. This waterfall offers the possibility of installing several ropes and climbing lines on its first 40 meters, for those who would like to start on a single pitch in a natural setting.
  • La Colère du Ciel (The Wrath of Heaven) – 300m – 3+: A long, technically undemanding waterfall in Oisans. This seven-pitch route features a gully interspersed with small ledges, large steep walls that are not overly athletic, and vast, comfortable ice fields at the exit.
  • La colère du ciel (The Wrath of Heaven) – 300m – 3+: a long, technically undemanding waterfall in Oisans. This 7-pitch route is characterized by a gully interspersed with small ledges, large steep walls that are not too athletic, and vast, comfortable ice fields at the exit.
  • Caturgeas – 300m (600m for the full route) – 3+/4: Of all these glacial ascents, Caturgeas was the first to be climbed in December 1979. The first half, with its varied structures, is fairly sustained over 8 pitches without being very difficult: the first ledges lead to wide ice gullies, then a snow slope to a vast wall. The second part is easier: we progress through gently sloping gullies and climb a few short ledges that are more fun than difficult, before exiting onto the Emparis plateau.
  • La croupe de la poufiasse – 220m – 4+: Six pitches of ice for a striking, technical, and classic ice climb in the area.
