Classic and timeless
Perhaps the most scenic route to reach the eastern summit of Le Râteau! The north-east ridge route is a mountaineering classic: rock, glacier approach, snow ridge… Starting from the Enfetchores bivouac or the Promontoire refuge, this route takes you across the south and north slopes of the mountain, with one foot on the Romanche side and the other on the Etançons side! The discovery of the Ecrins region continues even on the descent, with a return via the very scenic normal route and the long but equally wild Vallon du Diable. Sleeping at the Refuge de la Selle to complete the tour via the Paquet pillar at Râteau Ouest and returning to La Grave is the most logical way to end this truly memorable trip in style! If returning on the same day, the village of St Christophe en Oisans will mark the end of our journey: plan to return to La Grave by taxi or bus. It is also possible to depart from the village of La Bérarde.
