The Mont rose massif offers relatively easy access to a magnificent glacier panorama over the Italian-Swiss border, with views of the Po plain and several emblematic peaks such as the Lyskamm, the Matterhorn, the Zinalrothorn..
With a choice of peaks on the glacier, we are able to adapt and choose the itinerary according to various conditions (weather, fitness levels, number of people on the mountain). Among others, we will have chance to climb the Pyramide Vincent (4215m), the aesthetic ridge of the Parrotspitze (4443m) and, for the fittest, the Zumsteinspitze (4562m) with the possibility of a well-deserved break at the Margherita hut, the highest in Europe, on the Gnifetti peak (4554m).
If you’re a regular hiker and you’d like to explore glacier mountaineering, we’re here to accompany you for your first steps up there. We’ll be taking the time to focus on learning basic mountaineering techniques.
Day 1 :
RDV at 8am at the guide office (and/or 12pm at Pont St Martin). 3 and a half hour journey to Staffal. Cable car ride to Punta Indren. Picnic lunch. Hike to the Mentova refuge (3498m). Initiation/revision of handing crampons and various rope skills.
Day 2 :
Climb the Vincent Pyramid (4215mm) and, depending on energy levels, continue on to the Giordano bivouac (4167m). Descent to the Gnifetti hut (3647m), take lunch and rest.
Accommodation : Refuge Gnifetti
Day 3 :
Climb to the Col de Lys (4152m), followed by an ascension of one of several summits (depending on conditions) such as the Ludwigshorn, the Parrotspitze, the Zumstein or the refuge Margherita. For the descent, depending on timing, we’ll stop for a meal either in one of the refuges, or once we get into the valley and have swapped our boots for flip flops! Return home…

This program allows you to gradually work your way up the mountain. Although technically it may be “just” walking with crampons, we’ll be spending a lot of time at altitude, and you’ll need to give your body time to adapt to the high altitude and the effort you’ll be exerting.
It’s important that you are in good physical shape and regularly practice an endurance sport such as walking, cycling, running, swimming. You should be prepared for a 5- to 8-hour day’s sport, equipped with a backpack weighing around ten kilos.
